Introduction
Hey guys, my name is Agulue Chidubem Valentine. I am a 300 level student reading Computer Science at the University of Benin, Nigeria.
My journey into tech started exactly 1 month before the Covid-19 lockdown was issued. Before then, I had very little idea about coding. I had recently informed my cousin, Oo Nwoye, about a break we were having at school and he wasted no time in introducing me into the world of tech. He helped me get a laptop for practice as well as access to premium video tutorials. It was a bit hard for me to commit initially because I had just gotten an office job at Sterling Bank Nigeria but eventually, my newly found love for coding got the best of me.
After the Covid-19 lockdown was issued, I got into a remote internship program with Hotels Nigeria (HNG). It was a rigorous training exercise and their major aim was helping newer developers channel their skills to building solutions as quickly as possible. It was my first bootcamp and I was barely a month into web development but my hard work, determination and help from mentors enabled me get up to stage 9 of the 10 stages. My experience at HNG I7 was a wonderful one and I got to meet and make a few friends. The 3 months of the internship could have been the fastest scaling up that i have experienced, if I do say so myself.
At about the time during the rounding off of the HNG internship program, I got into Google Africa Developer Scholarship (GADS2020). It is a yearly program with Pluralsight as it's active partners and as such, I got access to a plethora of related courses. It was during this program that I got introduced to Angular as a framework for development. It had IQ tests and a project phase which I passed and graduated from.
I am very comfortable working on the front-end of websites and I know how to manipulate current libraries to deliver pixel perfect replicas of any given design. I am also very proficient in writing and I am a fast learner so can easily get accostumed to any necessary libraries or stacks.
Why I am Applying
As per my school curriculum, all 300 level students of Computer Science are expected to take the whole of the second semester to gain an experience of the corporate world. This industrial training programme is is expected to run for three months. From the 1st of May to the 30th of July.
I am currently looking for a place to do my IT and would prefer somewhere tech related as this will help me continue to grow in my desired field.
I stay around Ikeja axis in Lagos and I am ready and available to work and work. If you have an opening, I would really appreciate the opportunity.
What I Expect
My major interest right now is to gather relevant work experience in my field. This industrial training is an opportunity I intend to utilise to the fullest.
- Most importantly, I expect to work. On projects, write ups and any and everything that would be expected in a tech firm.
- I would love a company with a good atmosphere. Good working conditions and experienced colleagues that could possibly serve as mentors to me.
- While there is not a necessity of being paid, I would appreciate little tokens to cover my transportation, internet subscription and other little needs.
- I would prefer to be around a team that writes and commits code.
